Bedside Manners with Brett Heyman
Brett Heyman, Founder and Designer Edie Parker, on the many merits of Ambien and falling victim to the late night “pee and worry.”
WHAT’S YOUR BEDTIME ROUTINE?
I’m diligent about washing my face and lathering on the cream. Frankly, I don’t know that it’s working, but I suppose the alternative would be much worse. If my husband is out, I watch the Real Housewives free of any judgmental sighs. If he is home, I watch Rachel Maddow and then go to sleep.
WHAT’S THE BEST NIGHT OF SLEEP YOU’VE EVER HAD?
On Ambien. Anywhere.
WHAT’S THE WORST NIGHT OF SLEEP YOU’VE EVER HAD?
Without Ambien. Regularly.
WHAT TIME DO YOU GO TO SLEEP?
WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP?
6:30am, courtesy of my children. Even on Sundays.
WHAT PUTS YOU TO SLEEP RIGHT AWAY?
I hate to repeat myself, but Ambien.
WHAT KEEPS YOU AWAKE AT NIGHT?
I am a victim of the pee and worry. It’s that thing where you wake up in the middle of the night because you have to use the ladies, and then you start thinking about everything on your mind, whether large or small.
WHAT’S ON YOUR BEDSIDE TABLE?
My iPad, old issues of the New Yorker.
WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU DO IN THE MORNING?
Snuggle my kids who wake me, then check e-mail.
WHAT’S THE STRANGEST THING SOMEONE HAS ASKED YOU TO CUSTOMIZE ON ONE OF YOUR CLUTCHES?
WHAT’S ONE THING YOU ALWAYS KEEP IN YOUR HANDBAG?
Can I have three? By Terry Baume de Rose, black eyeliner, Visine.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PIECE YOU’VE EVER DESIGNED?
A tan suede soft Lara with neon yellow ends. I alone loved it.
HOW HAVE YOUR SLEEP HABITS CHANGED SINCE BECOMING A MOM?
Earlier to bed and even earlier to rise, seven days a week.
Bed: Whichever one my husband is in.
Midnight Snack: A square of Lindt dark chocolate with sea salt.
Sound to fall asleep to: White noise machine.
Sleepwear: Discontinued Gap cotton underwear. At least for about another year until they dissolve completely.
Bedtime Reading: Old issues of Vanity Fair on my iPad.
