Next To My Bed: Jung Lee

What does a world-renowned wedding planner do during a pandemic? “For the first time, I feel a bit rested,” NYC-based events expert Jung Lee tells us. Lee, who owns an eponymous NYC shop filled with perfectly curated home goods and runs a special events firm aptly named Fête has planned some of the chicest weddings we’ve ever seen.

Recently, she has swiftly adjusted to the new reality of what weddings look like during the pandemic; outdoors, socially distanced, smaller on Zoom. “People don't want to put their life on pause,” she says definitively.

And while we’re on the subject of putting things “on pause,” pressing “stop” on this always-on business owner, appears almost ironically easy. So how does a never-miss-any-detail planner by nature and trade wind down at the end of the day? Here, Jung Lee lets us in on her nighttime routine.

What side of the bed do you sleep on?

I sleep on whatever side is closest to the bathroom! At my apartment that’s to the left of me.

What can you not sleep without?

I can sleep under any circumstances. I mean, I fell asleep watching Hamilton! And not because it was bad! But if no one is interrupting me, I can fall asleep no matter what. I have friends that need everything totally blacked out. Meanwhile, I’ve fallen asleep standing up.

What’s currently next to your bed?

At home I have a nightstand, lamp, my clock, my charger—all the things that I need. I need things to be very tidy in order to feel comfortable. Right now, I’m reading The Seat of the Soul, which I’ve had for about 20 years, so that's next to me. I also have Howard Stern Come's Again [on my nightstand]. A little bit of self-discovery and a little bit of entertainment.

I sleep with my phone next to me, but I feel like I’ve gotten better [about constantly checking it]. I just always feel like something is always happening, so I always check it right before I go to sleep and first thing when I wake up.

What’s your bedtime routine in five steps or less?

I have to brush my teeth.

I have to moisturize my hands, feet, and lips. I use all sorts of things. Right now, I’m using a lot of Antica Farmacista products, and I still use the same Rosebud Salve that I used in high school on my lips and cuticles. It’s an all-purpose thing.

I also have in my drawer—because if it’s unattractive it can’t be in my eyesight—a pair of socks and coconut oil that I also use to moisturize my feet.
